Hello and welcome to another week, this time featuring an extra hour thanks to daylight savings time ending! I find I am truly getting old because even the extra hour of sleep threw me off and resulted in me feeling tired all this weekend. Either that or I’m still a little worn out from visiting Chicago last weekend to see my sister-in-law.
Because of the sleepiness, I’m going to keep this week’s substack a little shorter and share a funny story with you.
While we as a country decided to lose and gain an hour for reasons beyond me, our sweet boy Juno is a cat and neither he nor any of his feline friends agreed to any of this time wonkiness. As a result, Juno has been very confused this entire weekend. On Sunday morning, he was bothered when we didn’t get out of bed at the usual time. And then, when we finally did get out of bed, he waited and waited at his automatic pet feeder for a snack that would not be coming for another hour.
We felt so bad for him that we caved and gave him a little treat at one point, hoping that sooner or later his poor little brain can wrap its mind around the concept of time.
I’ll let you know if he ever figures out how time works, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
This week’s music pick
Queen - A Night At The Opera
It’s a really basic pick this week, but it’s on my list for one reason: I hated Queen for the longest time, and it’s all thanks to being a choir kid in high school. If you’re confused what either of those things have to do with each other, I’ll explain.
As you can imagine, choir kids love singing. They love singing so much, in fact, that they’ll sing any chance they can get. Like when we’re all sitting on a school bus before and after a choir concert. And a favorite choir kid song is “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which is admittedly a great song, but gets ruined when you’ve heard it sung for the 50th time this week as if it was the funniest thing in the world.
I may have gotten past this, but I made the silly decision to study music in college. So, this trend continued on into early adulthood, and it was even less fun to me than it was in high school.
After graduating, I needed several years away from this song and anything Queen-related so me and my eardrums could heal. Finally, in the year 2024, I was ready to listen to them again thanks to the recommendation of Jenn. And you know what? I get the hype! A Night At The Opera is a fun album that goes in all sorts of directions before ending with “God Save The Queen”, a goofy but somehow fitting way to end the album.
