Tired this week, but in a good way. Most of last week was spent in Michigan with Jenn’s family. We were treated to a couple very nice dinners with her Grandma Gin Gin and also did some other fun things!
First on our journey was a trip to Dearborn Music, a local record store, on Sunday, just a day after Record Store Day. I took not a single picture save for a weird album I found.
I found some fun things there:
Kiko by Los Lobos
Moving Target by Gil Scott-Heron (A RSD leftover!)
Hot Burritos! by The Flying Burritos
Some other things I can’t think of right now.
After that, we went to Road Less Traveled books and bought a couple Philip K. Dick novels at the recommendation of Jenn’s uncle (I have devoured two of his books already, so thank you, Jenn’s Uncle, for the recs!)
The next day, I wrote last week’s substack from the Plymouth Coffee Bean, a childhood favorite of Jenn’s and a nowadays favorite of mine! It’s a very cute place that had some really good cold brew and a mean Spinach & Feta Pie.
The last big highlight was probably Izakaya Sanpei, an amazing Japanese restaurant that had Hotpot! You get some meat and veggies and a camp stove and you get to cook it all yourself! I took on the duty of monitoring the flame and I was very thankful for it as I was feeling kind of overstimulated at the time. Having a job helped me keep my eyes on the prize – delicious food.
Before our trip was over, we had a short visit with Jenn’s Grandma Maureen who lived not too far away, spending time catching up and looking through some CDs from her and her late husband’s collection. She was so kind to part with them and I’ve been listening to many of them nonstop since then!
After the trip came my favorite part: driving back home (Just kidding I hate driving!!!)
The drive back was fine and we made the most out of it, making a couple stops here and there to eat our leftovers, stretch our legs, and get a breath of fresh air.
We made it home a little before seven p.m. and were so glad to be done in the car for a bit.
And now I’m pretty tired, but I’ve got some cool things coming up! I’m tabling my zine this Saturday at a local film series. I’ve never done such a thing so I’m a little nervous, but I think most of it is going to be spent sitting at a table and doinking on my computer before someone comes to talk to me. And then, after that’s over, I’ll share with you next week how you can buy your very own copy!
That’s all for now, but I’ll leave you with a couple other photos I took on the trip.

A Humble Request
Like what you read and want to support what I do? Consider tipping me on Ko-fi; You’ll ensure I can afford many coffee drinks for the foreseeable future and be able to make just as many posts too!
No matter how big or small the amount, any and all tips will be appreciated! As a consolation of my gratitude, anyone who contributes any amount will have their name displayed at the bottom of my newsletter for all of 2025 (Unless you want to be anonymous, which is fine too!)
My newsletter will never cost money, but your tips help me continue to work on this project and, with enough donations, even grow it too!
A shoutout to my supporters this year:

Really enjoyed this mini travelogue! I feel like as things get more and more expensive, little trips like what you describe here will become the new norm, and it’s always interesting reading about what other people do on their travels.
